The recent general election has brought to light deep divisions in our society, with strong views expressed on both sides of the political spectrum. While it is heartening to see Singaporeans actively engaging in civic matters, it is also clear that emotions ran high, and the nation now needs healing.
I hope that as we move forward, Singaporeans can come together to mend these divides – to engage respectfully, listen to one another, and work collectively for the common good. A strong society is built not on uniformity of opinion, but on unity in purpose.
At the same time, I hope the newly elected government will take this opportunity to listen more closely to the concerns voiced by Singaporeans. Issues raised during the campaign – whether about the cost of living, housing, jobs, or transparency – deserve continued and serious attention.
A more inclusive, open and responsive approach from the Government, matched by constructive and respectful engagement from the public, will help Singapore emerge stronger and more united in this new world order of uncertainty ahead.
