Currently, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) imposes a limit of 10 post-paid SIM cards per subscriber per telco.

With 13 telecommunications companies operating actively in Singapore, a subscriber can legally gain access to 130 post-paid SIM cards.

Singaporeans, young or old, who have an urgent need for immediate cash may be lured in and recruited to be a subscriber and thereafter resell the SIM cards to potential scammers, foreign or local.

Recently, Singaporeans have been receiving more scam calls from local numbers. As scammers are getting craftier in their deceptive “trades”, we must take more action to make it onerous for anyone to gain access to such a high number of SIM cards.

I hope that the IMDA will seriously consider setting a lower limit on the number of post-paid SIM cards a subscriber can access.
