I was glad to read the article “Temporary Job Scheme a lifeline for accused maids awaiting outcome of investigations” (Oct 20).

Offering temporary employment opportunities to domestic workers accused of crimes is a positive way to give them peace of mind while they are assisting with investigations.

During this period, these domestic workers can continue meeting family expenses like children’s school fees and basic household needs.

The legal principle of “innocent until proven guilty” applies to all those accused of offences.

We should also not adopt a judgmental attitude towards victims of alleged crimes.

Participating employers should also provide a safe and non-judgmental working environment for these workers.

The Temporary Job Scheme can be successful only if it has the support of all stakeholders, such as foreign embassies, migrant advocacy groups and the relevant government agencies.
