I refer to the letter “

Clamp down on advertisers making exaggerated weight loss claims

” (Jan 13).

Beyond such advertisements, there is also a growing trend of live online platforms where hosts promote all sorts of products, including food items, supplements, and beauty and health products.

Many of these promotions make exaggerated or unsubstantiated claims, often presented as “personal experiences” or “limited-time guarantees”. These claims can be misleading to consumers.

It is also a concern when such product promotions originate from overseas sellers, where accountability and regulatory oversight may be less clear. Consumers may be exposed to potential health risks or financial losses, with little recourse when claims turn out to be false.

Regulations should be strengthened and enforced across these live online platforms and preventive measures taken before something drastic happens.
