We thank Ms Ho See Ling for her letter “More diverse courses needed under SkillsFuture Credit scheme”
The SkillsFuture Credit supports Singaporeans in taking ownership of their lifelong learning and skills development. It can be used to offset the fees for approved skills-related courses on top of substantial government course fee subsidies of up to 90 per cent.
The base tier of $500 SkillsFuture Credit, given at age 25, can be used for over 28,000 courses. These are listed on the MySkillsFuture portal, and cover a wide range of topics such as languages, arts and design, data and digitisation, and entrepreneurship. Individuals can also use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course subscription fees of providers such as Coursera, GnowbeLearn, LHub Go, Udemy and ZilLearn. These providers offer a wide range of online course offerings to suit different learning needs and interests.
In addition to the base tier, the SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 given at age 40 helps mid-career workers pursue substantive training to improve their career health and employability. The top-up can be used for over 7,000 full-time and part-time courses offered by both institutes of higher learning and private training providers.
SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is committed to supporting the lifelong learning needs of Singaporeans and ensuring they continue to have access to a variety of training options that help them stay competitive in the workforce. If there are specific courses which the public would like to have considered for SkillsFuture Credit eligibility, the feedback can be provided to SSG and we will consider how best to support. For example, in the past year, we have onboarded Coursera and Udemy in response to strong public and industry feedback.
