I strongly support the Government’s decision to block access to 14 online posts that target our Indian community. (Singapore blocks online posts targeting Indian community; content likely from China-based platform, June 6)
Suggestion or innuendo that Singapore is overrun by Indians is an evil attempt to incite hatred and suspicion in our hard-fought multiracial and multicultural society. Such malicious efforts must be strongly repudiated by anyone who identifies himself as a Singaporean.
The dangerous narrative must also be rejected by countries that have various races or ethnic groups in their midst. Netizens who espoused such derogatory and demeaning views must remember that they also have different dialect communities in their society.
Imagine the hatred sown if one race or dialect group is pitted against another. Hence, do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself. Our harmonious multiracial society took much effort, time, tears and sweat to arrive at. It is an ongoing process. It is a precious porcelain work that must not be broken.
I believe that all Singaporeans will rise to this challenge to our multiracial and multicultural society.
