We thank Loong Chik Tong for taking the time to share his observations and suggestion (Let people get off once SGH shuttle bus is at alighting bay, July 7).
The shuttle buses at the Block 3 bay are required to stop only at the designated pick-up and drop-off point to ensure the safety of passengers and facilitate smooth operations.
Porch officers are deployed at this location to provide assistance, guide buses into a safe stopping position one at a time, and, in particular, support passengers with mobility challenges.
Without the on-site guidance of porch officers, buses queueing behind may not be able to stop safely alongside the kerb, increasing the risk of trips, falls or other accidents.
We understand that this arrangement may occasionally cause some inconvenience, particularly during peak periods.
However, we seek passengers’ understanding and cooperation in letting buses proceed to the designated drop-off point, as these measures are implemented with passenger safety as our main priority.
We are grateful to Loong for his feedback. Suggestions from members of the public are invaluable in helping us continually improve the experience for our patients, visitors and staff.
