It has been more than a decade since Formula One first roared into Singapore in 2008. The event has brought much shine and significant tourism dollars to our economy. Beyond economics, there are also intangible benefits such as international branding and national pride.
But I have concerns about the length of time it takes to set up the barriers around the city. After 17 years of experience and operational expertise, I cannot understand why it still takes two months or more to put them in place. Surely the process can now be streamlined and completed in a far shorter timeframe.
These barricades, when left standing for so long, mar the beauty of our city landscape and are an eyesore for non-F1 tourists visiting Singapore.
Can we do this faster, while still maintaining safety and efficiency?
