Recently, I asked the CPF Board if I could apply for the Silver Support Scheme, which provides a quarterly cash supplement to seniors who had low incomes during their working years and now have less in retirement.

I was told that, if at the age of 55 I had contributed more than $140,000 to my CPF, I wouldn’t be eligible for the scheme.

I find this condition outdated and unrealistic. I am now 84. It has been 29 years since I was 55.

My CPF account has been depleted. I have only the balance in my MediSave account.

In my younger days, I contributed much to the country by way of taxes, and also served the community in many grassroots organisations and did some volunteering work.

Now in my golden years, I look forward to the Government helping poor seniors like me have a more meaningful life in our remaining years and to die gracefully. Recent CDC vouchers and other contributions by the Government have helped.

Will the relevant authorities review the Silver Support Scheme so that those in the same situation as me can qualify for it?
