We thank the writers for their letters, “

Renaming Sports Hub The Kallang is a nod to cultural resonance

” (Dec 5), and appreciate the strong sentiments they, and many Singaporeans, hold for this precinct.

For generations, Kallang has been more than a physical location. It has been the stage for Singapore’s most iconic sporting, cultural and entertainment moments. It is home to the “Kallang Roar” and “Kallang Wave”, expressions deeply woven into our national memory. We are honoured to be stewards of this heritage and this national asset.

In the three years since we took over management of the precinct, we have deliberately shifted from being a venue for hire to actively curating world-class experiences. Over this period, we have hosted more than 4,000 event days and welcomed nearly 9.5 million visitors who came for exceptional sport, entertainment, lifestyle and community experiences. As the precinct expands, its purpose and ambition have grown beyond what the original name was conceived to reflect.

While “Kallang” honours the shared history, “The Kallang” unifies all the assets in the precinct into a single distinct destination to signify that this is not just a place on the map, but Singapore’s definitive stage for sport, entertainment, lifestyle and community. As part of this exercise, the destination brand has been refreshed but the individual venues, such as the National Stadium and Singapore Indoor Stadium, continue to retain their existing names. Collectively, this strengthens the shared identity and emotional resonance to The Kallang.

As we enter this next phase of growth, we remain committed to building on Kallang’s rich legacy and the impact we have made over the last three years. Our aspiration is for every visitor to leave The Kallang with a memory worth keeping – and for these memories to inspire generations to come.
