Forum: Punggol Coast MRT station an engineering and architectural feat

I refer to the article “Bridging heritage and community needs: A look at Punggol Coast MRT station before Dec 10 opening” (Dec 1).
Kudos to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for designing the station, the first to be conceptualised using design thinking, with LTA gathering commuter feedback.
The station took four years to design and six years to build and is an engineering and architectural feat, given that it had to be integrated with the Punggol Digital District, with work taking place next to live LRT viaducts.
The Punggol Coast MRT project showcases the ingenuity of transport planning, analysis and design in Singapore, and highlights how our MRT system has evolved since it started operating in 1987.
It is also a brilliant attempt to preserve the heritage of Punggol, incorporating columns that branch out like the roots of mangrove trees and artist Zul Othman’s artwork depicting the evolution of Punggol.
I cannot wait to visit the station when it opens on Dec 10.
