As a small-business owner, I’m concerned about the limited payment options available for parking in Singapore.

At present, drivers are required to use only the Nets CashCard or Nets Motoring Card to pay carpark charges. This exclusivity feels out of step in an increasingly digital and cashless economy.

In contrast, countries like Malaysia offer more inclusive systems. Their Touch ’n Go terminals, for instance, accept Visa and Mastercard, providing motorists flexibility and convenience.

The Nets-only approach presents practical challenges. Drivers are often caught off guard with insufficient card value or failed automated top-ups. For businesses like mine, these limitations add unnecessary friction to expense tracking and claims.

Expanding payment options to include Visa and Mastercard would not only modernise the system but also offer consumers greater choice. I hope the relevant authorities will consider introducing more universal and user-friendly alternatives.
