I refer to the article “Success of Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone hinges on timely execution of projects: Analysts”
As soon as the developing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) was announced, foreign investment commitments in Johor started to rise. The two major investing nations are Singapore and China in the initial period.
Johor has abundant land and resources, while Singapore is a global hub for business, finance and technology.
Singapore is responding positively to the development of the JS-SEZ, with more than 100 companies having already gone there to explore opportunities. Some had gone there even before the agreement was signed.
On Jan 7, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the exchange of agreement during the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in Putrajaya.
With abundant land in Johor, wider prospects and objectives for developing the JS-SEZ can be set.
Let us aim for it to become the region’s best hub, not just for doing business, manufacturing, communication, transportation, entertainment and tourism but also for education, research and development, promoting multiculturalism and enhancing international relationships among nations.
If we aim high, when completed, the JS-SEZ can be bigger and more active than the SEZs in Thailand and Vietnam.
Working together with Malaysia, Singapore can engage international experts of various disciplines to give advice on how to develop it into a modern world-class global hub that could attract a wide range of good companies from all over the world to fulfil the objectives set.
