It is perhaps not surprising that the take-up rate for the SG Culture Pass remains low (Only 10% of SG Culture Pass credits used a year after launch; MCCY to create portal to lift senior uptake, Sept 2).
One issue that should be looked at is how to buy tickets as a group using the Culture Pass credits.
For example, suppose a family of four wants to attend a concert together and all four family members have SG Culture Pass credits. Each person has to log in separately to use their own credits to purchase a ticket.
This creates a practical problem.
There is no guarantee that all four family members can secure seats together. For popular performances, there is even a risk that by the time the last family member makes the booking, tickets for the same performance may no longer be available.
This seems unnecessarily cumbersome, especially when attending concerts, theatre performances and other cultural events is often a family or group activity.
Perhaps there should be a mechanism that lets one person make a single booking for a family or group, while drawing separately from the Culture Pass credits of each eligible individual.
It is also no wonder that senior citizens are not using the credits.
If we want to encourage greater utilisation of the SG Culture Pass, making it easier for families and groups to use their credits together would be a good place to start.
