I read with interest the article

Will Labubu be a keeper like Hello Kitty and Pokemon?

(Jan 5). The article suggests Labubu’s rise to fame was driven by celebrity endorsements and the advent of blind boxes.

A friend recently spent hours at her friend’s house opening blind boxes. She admitted that while collecting figurines was part of the appeal, the real thrill lay in the anticipation and hope of unboxing the one that she liked the most.

However, this fixation on instant gratification may create a generation of “blind box junkies”, addicted to the emotional highs of unboxing. Like adrenaline junkies, they chase fleeting thrills, often at great financial cost – blind boxes are not cheap.

I hope young people will exercise restraint and learn to navigate disappointment even when the elusive Labubu remains just “one box away”.
