I refer to the Opinion piece by Professor Tommy Koh and Mr Tan Suee Chieh (

The right outcome for Income? Not a merger with Allianz

, Nov 27) on the proposed Allianz-Income deal, in which they highlighted the merits of Income remaining as a social enterprise.

What also merits further public attention and concern is the role of the Income leadership and NTUC Central Committee in this episode which eventually compelled the Government to step in directly. If not for the Government’s timely intervention, the deal, despite many reservations raised by the public, might have gone through.

Prof Koh and Mr Tan also said they were concerned by a statement issued by Allianz that the deal is not dead and it is still in negotiation.

I hope the leaders of NTUC and Income have learnt some lessons from this episode.
