Mr Kelvin Seah’s article “No drama? We could do with some in our schools”
I have been on many interview panels over the last 20 years. I have observed many candidates who fare badly during interviews despite having sterling results.
In the workplace, while our Singaporean workers are diligent and intelligent, they often cannot speak well during presentations, unlike their Caucasian counterparts. My peers and I have a long-running joke that if we want to do a sales pitch, we will get a Caucasian to do the talking, while our Singaporean workers do the actual work!
The failure to speak and present well may also hinder one’s prospects of finding a life partner. Perhaps this is one reason why we are seeing more singles in recent years.
I hope the Ministry of Education will seriously consider the merits of Mr Seah’s suggestion, if we want Singaporeans to thrive both in the workplace and in social settings.
