After reading the article “A&E doctor hit by cardiac arrest during tennis, saved by colleagues on the court” (Oct 12), I am glad efforts have gone into making automated external defibrillators (AEDs) so readily available.

There are over 10,000 AEDs in Singapore in many public places, such as residential, commercial and industrial properties, train stations and community facilities. There are AEDs at the lift lobbies of every two HDB blocks islandwide.  The AED-on-Wheels scheme also means over 200 taxis and private-hire vehicles have AEDs.

AED training is also provided to many groups of people such as teachers, national servicemen and uniformed groups in schools, increasing the percentage of the population with lifesaving skills.

I believe we should also demonstrate our own social responsibility and take up AED training courses to serve the community in emergency situations.
