We are encouraged by Mr Darrick Chan Ying Jie’s interest in and support of a vibrant music scene in Singapore. (Local music scene alive with passion and talent, Oct 11).

Singapore has a rich tapestry of over 1,100 music companies and groups, each contributing to our diverse arts scene. Initiatives that celebrate and bring local music to people not only add colour to Singapore’s music scene but also help enrich our everyday lives.

In bringing enriching arts experiences to our communities, the National Arts Council collaborates with our arts industry and partners.

Most recently, partners like the Marina Bay Sands launched our Hear65 initiative I Play SG Music, produced by Bandwagon, and introduced home-grown music to Mice (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) audiences at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Commuters also enjoyed local music played at MRT and LRT stations and bus interchanges.

We work to make the arts accessible to everyone. Together with the People’s Association and the community development councils, arts groups and professionals, we recently launched ArtsEverywhere@CDC to bring regular arts experiences to communities and the heartland. Through this national effort, over 50,000 residents will enjoy monthly performances and cultural activities near their homes.

Another initiative, Catch.sg – the one-stop digital platform to discover all things arts and culture in Singapore – is also a valuable resource for Singaporeans to explore upcoming events that aim to bring the arts closer to our communities.

We hope that more Singaporeans can learn more about, engage in and benefit from the positive impact of the arts on our lives.

We thank Mr Chan for his letter and all who support local music and the arts.
