I was concerned on reading the article “More youth in Singapore personally know someone who had taken drugs: Survey” (Aug 3). I recall the anti-drug posters and anti-drug videos I came across in school. Younger people seem more susceptible and vulnerable to influence.

There may be more young people knowing someone who has taken drugs, but what about the drug usage among those that others don’t know about?

I remember reading on HealthHub about how we can spot friends who may be taking drugs. I think young people should try to help others by learning more about the signs of drug addiction and looking out for friends who may be behaving differently.

In feeling worried for our friends, however, we may inadvertently be too confrontational and make matters worse. I suggest we also read up more on how to better support them and what next steps to take.
