I refer to the article “ Super-aged, superlative: Ageing with meaning and dignity in Singapore
I would like to share my experience as the founder of a youth-led ground-up initiative, The Mudita Project, which aims to reconnect seniors to the younger generations, just like in the kampung days.
While I was studying for my A levels at hawker centres, the seniors who had been chatting loudly there would lower their voices. Seniors passing by would pat my head, call me hard-working, and sometimes even offer me free Milo.
In these everyday encounters, I forged friendships with and lasting impressions of the seniors in my neighbourhood, which became the seed for The Mudita Project.
Through recent activities we organised at an active ageing centre and an upcoming session with the generous support of West Coast-Jurong West GRC MP Hamid Razak, I have seen how small, bottom-up initiatives can create meaningful connections.
Look around; connection often begins right where you are. Ageing with dignity starts with building relationships.
