I agree with Mr Goh Boon Kai ( Find ways to highlight academic excellence too
One of the main outcomes of a junior college, as an educational institution, is academic excellence which will let its students pursue their desired course in a tertiary institution.
By not having any information on the cohorts’ A-level results, how are potential students supposed to assess if the JC can prepare them well for their preferred university course?
Furthermore, this practice is also not giving credit to the JC and educators who put in much hard work to prepare their students well.
I know of a JC, considered mid-tier in the 1990s, which has made great strides in recent years and is now much sought after due to the consistent hard work of its educators. Should not such a school be recognised for its improvement and achievement?
Without information that shows other JCs are doing well, most students will just try for the few brand-name schools, adding stress to the enrolment system.
I appreciate the Ministry of Education’s stand in recent years to move away from using academic results as the sole measure of achievement.
Schools seem to shy away from giving out academic awards, showcasing their academic achievements and now revealing their national examination results.
Have we now swung to the other extreme? It would be better if we can showcase and celebrate all forms of success, both academic and non-academic.
