Kindness begets kindness.
This saying rang true for my husband and me when we had dinner at the 89.7 Supper Club in Geylang on May 10.
It all started when my husband stood up from our table to search for cutlery. The father of a family who sat behind us gestured to my husband for cutlery and condiments. Not wanting to correct the man that he wasn’t a server there, my husband got them the cutlery and condiments, before taking the same for ourselves and sitting back at our table.
When the other family realised my husband was a diner, the father, embarrassed, came over to thank my husband for helping out.
The family also waved to him before leaving.
Not thinking much about it, we finished our meal and went to pay. To our surprise, the cashier told us our meal had been paid for, by the family who sat behind us.
My husband had not felt slighted earlier and we were also not expecting anything in return.
As the family had left, we didn’t have a chance to thank them. Nonetheless, we were very touched by their gesture and wish to thank them.
