The reality of Singapore’s rapidly ageing population is becoming more pronounced, and with it comes an urgent need to strengthen our social service sector.
Yet, despite the growing demand, the number of training providers offering structured pathways into this sector remains limited.
Many mid-career individuals, having reached a stage where they seek to slow down their pace of life, are eager to contribute meaningfully to the community. Some have already taken the initiative to be volunteers, demonstrating passion and resilience.
However, for those who wish to make a more structured transition into the social service sector, the training options available under current schemes remain narrow.
Expanding the pool of training providers eligible under SkillsFuture would create a win-win outcome.
Mature individuals with transferable skills and life experience could upskill more effectively, while the sector benefits from a steady stream of motivated talent ready to support Singapore’s social needs.
Broadening training opportunities and tapping this pool of passionate individuals can better prepare our social service ecosystem to meet the challenges of an exponentially ageing population.
