Indeed, we have a treasure trove of insects and “creepy crawlies” in Singapore, and we also have mosquitoes that spread diseases such as dengue.

We have to balance the need to preserve our biodiversity and to control the problem of insect-borne diseases. I find it troubling that there is still widespread routine fogging in open spaces, presumably to control dengue, even though the National Environment Agency has said that such fogging should not be used as a routine mosquito-control measure.

As a layman, I understand that fogging of green spaces kills off other insect life and thus degrades the ecosystem.

Perhaps the authorities could offer clearer guidelines on fogging.

Let’s set up good practices so that our future generations will have a biodiversity to discover and appreciate.
