Loud music and singing at a campsite and barbecue pit disrupted the peace and serenity of East Coast Park on a recent Sunday, when I was there.
I can understand that the music and karaoke singing, enhanced with microphones and speakers, were to generate a lively vibe at the campsite.
But because we were there to unwind – by enjoying the sea breeze and listening to the waves – we chose a spot near the breakwater to avoid the loudness.
We were enjoying the scenery and calmness when a group of four came up behind us and set up their microphone and speaker and started to sing.
They disrupted the atmosphere for us.
East Coast Park and beach are not clubs, and park-goers must be aware that noise should be kept to an appropriate level. Businesses operating along the coastline adhere to volume limits.
Is there a way for everyone to be mindful of this? Or perhaps there need to be designated spaces where loud music is allowed and other spaces that are free of microphones and speakers.
