Recently, as I enjoyed my sundowner beside the pond in front of my home in Kranji, my staff informed me that there was a power failure at our farm. We called our electrician who informed us that he was stuck in traffic and would take more than an hour to reach us.
As it was getting dark, I called the electricity outage line under the PUB Emergency hotline. In 30 minutes, two men came and in less than 20 minutes, we were able to blow out the candles and put away the torches. They also waited for our electrician and showed him where the fault was so that the problem can be fixed should it happen again.
Yes, we could have moved to a cheaper country to retire in, but in times like these, we thank the country in which we were born a long time ago, especially as my husband is in a wheelchair and I am not that mobile and strong. We are grateful for the many good souls who keep us in safety and comfort.
