Every election season, my 97-year-old father – a retired detective who served during our nation’s challenging early years – takes out an old newspaper clipping from the 1950s. He is the Detective Koh featured in the article.
The clipping reminds him of the promise made to public servants like him: that their contributions to stabilising the country would be remembered and honoured forever. Today, that promise still holds true.
His lifelong pension continues to support him, covering all medical expenses, including those of his late wife.
As he sees our nation prospering internationally, he takes quiet pride in having played his part during difficult times.
The coming election matters to him because it represents continuity – the same commitment to stability and progress that has guided our country from those early turbulent years to today’s achievements.
When he votes, it’s with the perspective of someone who has witnessed decades of this steady progress first-hand.
