We thank Mr Steven Lim for his letter “

Keep children out of politics

” (April 15).

The Parliamentary Elections Act prohibits persons who are below 16 years of age from taking part in election activities, to protect them from being exploited during an election.

For example, a person below 16 should not appear in any photograph or video that endorses or supports a candidate, or help out in the logistics of election campaigning.
