Forum: Let people get off once SGH shuttle bus is at alighting bay

I would like to suggest a small change to how shuttle buses operate at the Block 2/3 bay at Singapore General Hospital, which could improve the experience for patients and visitors.
At present, when several shuttle buses arrive together, only the first bus is allowed to open its doors.
Those behind it must wait with doors shut until the first one departs before they can move up to the front position. Yet the bay is clearly long enough to hold two or three buses at once, all within the marked shuttle lane.
This means passengers on the trailing buses, many of whom are elderly, unwell, or in a hurry to make it to appointments, end up sitting needlessly just metres from the sheltered walkway leading into the hospital.
I don’t see why these passengers shouldn’t be allowed to alight as soon as their bus is safely stopped within the bay. The buses would not be entering traffic or any unmarked area, and passengers would step straight onto the covered pavement, with no road crossing involved.
Allowing this would ease congestion at the bay, shorten the time passengers are stuck on board, and make the arrival experience smoother for everyone, particularly those who are least able to wait comfortably.
