I refer to the article “

Illegal plate-flipping devices sold online in Malaysia, aid rogue motorists in evading law

” (Sept 16).

Given that thousands of Malaysian vehicles enter Singapore daily, it is obvious that there is a serious risk that drivers of vehicles fitted with these illegal devices will also use them to evade detection and enforcement for traffic offences – even crimes – committed in Singapore.

I suggest that Singapore’s checkpoint personnel be trained to spot such illegally modified plates, and that offending vehicles be impounded immediately before they enter our roads.

If Singapore-registered vehicles are found with such devices, they should likewise be impounded and their owners prosecuted.

I hope the Land Transport Authority and Traffic Police will implement measures to address this imminent risk.
