As a pedestrian, cyclist and motorist at different times of the week, I was concerned to read the letter “

Make cycling paths out of bounds for people who are not running

” (May 28). What happened to a balanced approach to ensure safety for all and the real meaning of “right of way”?

In a civilised and considerate society, pedestrians – especially the young, elderly or mobility-impaired – are considered the most vulnerable and deserve priority on shared pathways.

In many countries, dedicated cycling lanes are carved out of roads, not sidewalks, preserving pedestrian safety.

I urge the authorities to review pathway designs and consider clearer signage, public education or dedicated roadside cycling lanes to balance the needs of all users.

Let’s foster mutual respect and safety through constructive dialogue and practical solutions. Let’s also not lose our common sense and fall prey to an entitlement culture.
