Forum: Dad’s letter published in the Forum 44 years ago

As an avid reader of The Straits Times and especially the Forum section, I was surprised to realise that my late dad, Mr Chan Sig Yam, wrote a letter, “The MRT – weighing its benefits and costs”, which was published on Nov 17, 1980.
I was in Primary 1 and most likely playing marbles when my dad penned his thoughts on the idea of having an MRT system in Singapore!
This to me is a testament to the relevance and special place the Straits Times Forum has in the hearts and minds of its many readers.
I would like to thank the Forum for giving ordinary people a safe and neutral space to pen their opinions all these decades.
I wish the team the best as you continue to bring joy to your readers.
