We thank Nilkanth Patil and Jag Kuo for their letters “ActiveSG can do more for cricket enthusiasts” (May 29) and “Already hard to book a field for football, don’t talk about cricket” (June 3).

ActiveSG provides a range of facilities for public bookings to accommodate the diverse sporting needs of our community. We also partner the Ministry of Education (MOE) to open school sports facilities for public bookings on weekends under the Dual-Use Scheme (DUS). On average, both chargeable fields and free-to-play fields have high utilisation rates of about 90 per cent.

In assessing which sports can be supported at DUS facilities, MOE and SportSG consider factors such as infrastructure suitability, community demand, and the potential impact on school operations, safety, and nearby residents. While bat-and-ball sports such as cricket, baseball and softball are not currently on the list of approved sports, members of the public who want to use free-to-play fields for these sports may submit an ad-hoc request to ActiveSG.

There are also facilities dedicated as national training centres for high-performance sport. These are typically managed by national sports associations, and those interested may reach out to them for information on field availability and booking.

As part of SportSG’s efforts to make more sport facilities available to the public, we are progressively expanding the number and availability of DUS facilities, and exploring opportunities with other sport facility owners to open their spaces for public use.

Regarding Kuo’s feedback on facility availability, the introduction of MyActiveSG+ in 2024, which includes enhanced measures such as Singpass login and peak-hour balloting, has reduced the avenues for misuse. Compared to 2023, the number of unique users securing ActiveSG facility bookings in 2025 has increased by about 60 per cent.

With stricter measures, including the cancellation of bookings and suspension of accounts to address misuse, we have seen a significant drop in feedback regarding on-selling of facility bookings. We will continue to monitor facility usage and refine our safeguards to maintain a fair and transparent booking environment.

We appreciate the feedback and remain committed to supporting the diverse sporting interests of our community, while balancing the safety, suitability and needs of all stakeholders we serve.
