The Opinion piece “Don’t complain for the sake of it. Make it count” (Oct 20) resonated with me.

Complaining seems to be a favourite national pastime and has even become somewhat of a cultural stereotype. This can stem from high expectations of efficiency and service in a country that prides itself on order and precision.

But I agree that complaints should have a purpose and drive change. This is an important mindset to adopt.

Complaints that are carefully thought out and focused on solutions often bring about improvements, whether in personal life, business or society. People should use their voices responsibly, directing grievances towards action rather than venting for the sake of it.

Not all complaints are without merit. Singapore’s Government and institutions have systems in place to address public feedback, and constructive complaints can lead to improvements.

The key is to “make it count” by focusing on issues that matter and channelling those frustrations into meaningful solutions.
