I stay active daily and used to clock more than 7,500 steps and 90 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
From Feb 20, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) will remove reward milestones for clocking 7,500 and 10,000 daily cumulative steps under the National Steps Challenge (HPB to boost exercise programmes, revise National Steps Challenge, Feb 6).
HPB will award points only to those who clock at least 5,000 steps a day.
At the same time, the number of points awarded for moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity that is 20 minutes or longer will be lowered.
This does not seem to make sense. Why do people who clock more than 5,000 steps not get more points, and those who do more than 20 minutes get lower points?
This revised reward structures for daily steps and for moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity seem to discourage people from exercising more.
