I refer to the letter “Let’s create a more accepting society for parents and young children”
I believe that it is important for parents to teach their children appropriate behaviour when in public and to respect the space of other people as well.
There is a place for everything. Should children want to behave freely, shouting and having fun, take them to the beach, playground and children’s play areas.
But on public transport or in other public areas, it is good for parents to teach their children good behaviour and to respect the space of other people.
A public area is not the place for children to shout, run around, play or throw tantrums.
Parents will do well to teach their children good behaviour when in public places. The saying “children will be children” is not good enough.
When adults go out, they would appreciate it if parents make the effort to guide their children to behave appropriately in public, especially in restaurants and eateries, libraries and supermarkets.
As they say, there’s a place appropriate for everything, and we must teach our children to respect the space of others and good manners when in public.
