I found disturbing the online video showing pest control personnel handling a wild rooster roughly. Whether the animal is considered a nuisance or not, there is no justification for treating a living creature in such an insensitive manner.
Animals are sentient beings that can feel pain, fear and stress. The actions shown in the footage – including the staff pulling the rooster while it was entangled, carrying it by one wing, and throwing it in a sack into the van – appear unnecessarily harsh and unacceptable.
I urge the authorities to investigate this incident and ensure accountability where appropriate. Companies engaged in animal control must be held to proper humane handling standards, and staff should receive adequate training to prevent such incidents from happening again.
How a society treats its animals reflects its values. Humane treatment should never be optional, even during pest control operations or animal removal. I also encourage stronger enforcement, clearer welfare protocols, and greater public education regarding the ethical treatment of animals in Singapore.
