Malaysia will start enforcing its Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system for foreign cars entering Johor from Singapore on Oct 1. But recent news reports have highlighted that many Singaporean motorists are still facing roadblocks to apply for and install their VEP tags successfully ( 200 drivers turn up on opening day of Malaysia’s VEP information counter in Woodlands
I applied successfully and paid for the VEP tag online on Aug 19, paying more for postage delivery to avoid the large crowds at the Danga Bay collection centre. At that time, tag collection at the Woodlands centre was not yet possible. On the same day, I received a confirmation e-mail that the VEP tag would be mailed to me within 10 days.
However, till today, the delivery status on the VEP application platform still shows “pending tag shipping”. I’ve e-mailed and called the help desk many times but they have gone unanswered. I am concerned about whether I will receive the tag before the Oct 1 deadline as I have an upcoming trip to Malaysia booked months ago.
Many Singaporean motorists are facing challenges obtaining their VEP tags at Danga Bay, at the Woodlands centre and even via post. The entire exercise has created much anxiety and frustration.
I hope the Singapore Government can appeal to the Malaysian authorities to postpone the implementation deadline until the application process has been smoothened out.
