When I read the news on childminding (

3 operators to be part of home-based childminding pilot;  Childminding pilot attracts stay-at-home mothers, empty nesters

, Nov 30), I was both excited and interested.

I am all for the comprehensive screening of all childminders as taking care of children requires lots of love, care and patience.

I have been a homemaker for more than 20 years. I raised a good son. My family likes my cooking and I keep the house spick and span.

However, I have a history of depression and anxiety and am still seeing a psychiatrist.

Though I love the idea of being a childminder, I do not think any parent would want to put their children under the care of someone with certain mental conditions.

I do not blame people for the stigma they attach to mental patients. They have their doubts and concerns about our capabilities. Due to my mental condition, I work extra hard to be mindful and careful of my thoughts and feelings.

I genuinely hope for better understanding and more acceptance from people who lack confidence in us. I seek help from professionals because I believe in getting well and being given a second chance to pursue my interests without mental baggage.
