I refer to the article “Mini-bus trial at Changi Airport suspended after drivers of premium cabs voice unhappiness” (Feb 15).

It is shocking to learn that about 70 premium taxi drivers were able to hold Changi Airport Group (CAG) to ransom by refusing to pick up passengers for 15 hours between 9am and midnight on Feb 13.

I applaud CAG for its trial on the mini-bus services as not every tourist would want to fork out the price for a premium taxi, because of passenger count or otherwise.

This episode highlights the risks of creating conditions that could foster uncompetitive behaviour.

Singapore touts itself as a tourism destination. The actions of these drivers do not serve the interest of our country and are at best selfish in their intent.
