Forum: Be more grateful to our grandparents

I refer to the article by Mr Shawn Hoo: “Viewpoint: How to make a million memories with grandma while she’s alive” (Oct 19). It resonated with me on a personal level.

My grandparents took care of me when I was young, but it feels like I have neglected them because of how busy I am.

Even though I live near my grandmother and see her as often as two to five times a week, I still do not think I am spending quality time with her. After all, I reach her place for dinner late, and at best chit-chat with her for short moments before I head home to rest.

The more I focus on my own life, the further I feel from her.

My family has dinner together on most Sundays. Even then, it’s my grandmother who cooks for us and takes care of us even in her old age.

As a society, we should be more grateful and respectful towards our grandparents. We should also bridge the gap between grandparents and grandchildren.

It takes a village to raise a child, so I am eternally grateful to my grandparents.

I would like to commend Mr Hoo for sharing his personal story. I hope to see more of such articles from The Straits Times.
