We thank Mr Paul Ryan Loh for his letter “Support karters striving to do Singapore proud” (May 5), and commend the Singaporean karters who qualified for the Sodi World Series (SWS) International Finals in France.
Sport Singapore (SportSG) is committed to supporting athletes across a wide range of sports, primarily through the national sports associations (NSAs), which are responsible for developing their respective sports in Singapore.
Through the NSAs, SportSG provides funding, access to training facilities, and expertise in coaching, sport science and sport medicine initiatives. Support is calibrated to each sport’s needs and stage of development, to meet Singaporeans’ evolving sporting interests and help athletes unlock their fullest potential on the global stage.
We understand from Motor Sports Singapore (MSS), Singapore’s NSA for motor sports, that the SWS is a commercially organised event that does not come under the ambit of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the sport’s international federation, of which MSS is a member.
We nonetheless recognise the dedication and commitment these athletes have put in to qualify and compete, and wish them every success.
Athletes interested in competing in FIA-sanctioned competitions are encouraged to work with MSS to explore future opportunities to represent Singapore.
Beyond government funding, we also encourage the community to rally behind our athletes across different sporting pathways.
The One Team Singapore Fund enables Singaporeans and corporates to do so, with donations to eligible NSAs registered as charities matched by the Government.
