Forum: All quiet after dark, but maybe that’s not all bad

I read with interest the article “All quiet after dark” (May 3) and want to share a different perspective.
Maybe it’s true that Singapore’s nightlife is quieter due to regulations like the ban on alcohol sales after 10.30pm, but I believe this can be a good thing. Such laws may inconvenience some businesses, but they also promote healthier lifestyles and help protect the peace and well-being of residents.
I still enjoy going to Clarke Quay and the riverfront. I sometimes have dinner there and just sit quietly by the water – it’s peaceful and relaxing. Maybe I’m not someone who enjoys alcohol, but I do think everyone should be more aware of the risks of going overboard with drinking. We all have families and communities, and our habits affect more than just ourselves.
I think there is scope to do things differently. We can enjoy the party and energy in the evenings, and then balance it out at night with quieter moments, perhaps winding down at home with family or close friends. Not every city needs to be buzzing 24/7 with parties. There’s value in rest, calm and self-discipline. And perhaps, this shift will inspire new ways of socialising.
