We thank Mr Chong Ryh Huei for his suggestions (Analyse job postings to get insight on AI impact, March 10).
SkillsFuture Singapore has been applying data analytics and natural language processing techniques to monitor and analyse job postings since 2021. Our data sources comprise local and international job postings data, including data from the MyCareersFuture portal, as well as actual labour market movements derived from government sources. We seek to understand and spotlight emerging jobs and skills trends, to better inform and prepare individuals, companies and training providers for these trends.
We proactively share our data and insights with all parties. We make anonymised datasets available for research, so that others can help deepen our insights or discover findings for themselves. We publish insights reports and develop customised tools for public use.
As Mr Chong points out, there is a need to understand AI’s impact on job content changes and skills requirements. We are now looking at new data sources, such as reports on AI’s evolving capabilities and the tasks that AI apps can perform. We then map these to tasks that employers ask their workers to perform.
Based on this, we found that about 24 per cent of tasks identified across our 38 sectoral Skills Frameworks could be significantly aided by applying AI. We have shared this market intelligence to guide our training providers to help Singaporeans master the use of AI tools for these tasks.
This task-level analysis may be an example of the granular insights that Mr Chong asks for. We continue to improve our approaches and develop novel techniques, and welcome ideas and collaborators.
