The article “

Singapore’s silent crisis: Is grandpa eating well and enough?

” (Nov 19) brings to light various issues our senior citizens are facing, such as poor health, malnutrition and social isolation.

This social problem will escalate in years to come as we are a fast-ageing society. We must come up with solutions to mitigate it and the associated effects of the problem. The facilities and manpower needed in these solutions must be planned and prepared now.

On the mental health aspect, tackling loneliness is an urgent concern and should be given top priority. Some years ago, the idea of building lodges for lonely seniors was proposed, but for some reason, the idea has not taken off.   

A well-coordinated multi-pronged approach is needed to tackle the complex issues of an ageing population. Let us gather our best brains from various faculties to deal with the issues.
