We thank Mr Francis Yeoh for his letter “Are anti-littering measures working?” (July 1), and appreciate his interest in understanding how Singapore is progressing in its efforts to keep public spaces clean.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) introduced the Cleaner Neighbourhood initiative in 2025, in which we collaborate with residents, community leaders and local stakeholders to identify cleanliness hot spots through localised litter counts, feedback and sustained ground observations.

Enforcement efforts are then enhanced at these locations through patrols, standees, surveillance cameras and ground engagement.

NEA has expanded its surveillance capabilities, with up to 2,500 CCTV deployments conducted annually for ground littering. Coupled with the upgraded video analytics technology, these targeted measures have resulted in a 40 per cent reduction in litter count at hot spots over a six-month period.

Everyone has a part to play in keeping our shared spaces clean. We thank members of the public for disposing of litter responsibly. Littering incidents observed by the public can be reported to NEA via the OneService app so that appropriate action can be taken. Together, let’s keep Singapore clean.
