I have a love-hate relationship with my husband’s homeland, South Korea.
While living and working there for eight years, I was constantly frustrated with the largely homogenous country, its systems built on deeply-ingrained hierarchy and patriarchy, its break-neck ppalli-ppalli (hurry hurry in Korean) culture, and its people’s unhealthy obsession with beauty and appearances.
