Until a recent Saturday morning, I did not give much thought to my return home after nearly nine years abroad – mostly in Hong Kong, with stints in Britain and the United States along the way.

Many returnees, those who come back to Singapore after living overseas for years, experience some trauma of dislocation or disenchantment, a second culture shock of sorts.
