In 2024, to celebrate my first Chinese New Year in Perth, I organised a dinner for my Perth family. My Irish-Australian partner and his adult children and one of their partners indulged me and we had a sumptuous Chinese banquet in a noisy Chinese restaurant with a raucous lion dance.  

It was about 35 deg C, which is normal for Perth in January. Even with air-conditioning, it was warm in the restaurant, and we were seated near the door, where stressed-out staff were seating families clamouring for tables.
